Best Presentation Award-ICLP2014
Induced Voltage on an above-ground natural gas/oil pipeline
due to lightning strike on a Transmission line
Award is given to young scientists (below 35 years) for a high-quality presentation of a paper or a poster at the International Conference on Lightning Protection and notable contributions to the field of lightning research and lightning protection.
George Peppas, PhD candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering participated in the ICLP2014 (32nd International Conference on Lightning Protection), held from 11 to 18 October 2014, in Shanghai. There he presented his paper entitled "Induced Voltage on an above-ground natural gas / oil pipeline due to lightning strike on a Transmission line" which was the induced voltages in a gas / oil pipeline from a lightning strike on an adjacent high voltage line. The problem was modeled on a real scale and with real data. This work, co-authored by M. Papagiannis, S. Koulouridis and E. Pyrgiotis, won the award for best oral presentation among more than 400 papers of the conference.
