Maria I. Christopoulou received the Diploma in electrical and computer engineering (2003) and the Ph.D. degree (2011) in Biomedical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Athens, Greece. In 2004-2007, Maria was lab assistant supervisor in Biomedical Engineering Laboratory, NTUA. In 2007-2008, she joined IT’ IS Foundation - The Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), as an academic visitor, and she contributed to “EMF & BRAIN/SLEEP” and the “EX-Age” projects. From 2004 until now, Maria is in charge of the measurements carried out by the BIOmedical Simulations and IMaging (BIOSIM) Unit, NTUA in order to assess public exposure to electromagnetic fields. She has participated in two international inter-laboratory EM RF background field measurements, which took place in Dubrovnik, Croatia (2008) and Athens (2010). Maria’s Ph.D. thesis focused on numerical and experimental assessment of the effects on functional brain structures due to electromagnetic radiation of 2nd and 3rd generation mobile terminal equipment. Her research interests include computational electromagnetism, bioelectromagnetics, antenna theory, microwave-based diagnostic tools, numerical and experimental EM dosimetry, human provocation studies, EMF measurement methodologies and psychophysics. She has authored/co-authored 42 papers in journals, book chapters, international and national conferences and she has given 3 invited talks. Three journal (2010, 2009, 2005) and conference (2009, 2008, 2004) publications received awards and distinctions. Maria was the recipient of GRNET-Networking Research and Education (2008) and ICCS-Institute of Computer and Communication Systems (2005-2007). She was member of the technical programme committee of three (3) international conferences and of the organizing committee of four (4) international conferences. Maria is reviewer in the International Scientific Journals 'Bioelectromagnetics', 'IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation', 'IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering', 'IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics', 'Progress in Electromagnetic Research' and 'International Journal of Telemedicine and Applications'. She was teaching in the “School of Pedagogic and Technological Education (ASPAITE)” (2009-2011). Since December 2011, she started collaboration with the Non Ionizing Radiation Office of the Greek Atomic Energy Commission (EEAE), as radiation safety engineer. She is currently working as part time senior researcher in the research project entitled: "Multilevel assessment on biological effects of radioFrequency electromagnetic waves (mBioRF)" (01/02/2012–30/09/2015). In June 2012, Maria started her 3-yearPost-Doc studies within the framework of the research project entitled: "microDIAGNOSIS: Microwave-based diagnosis for pneumothorax and detection of air cavities in body", in the University of Patras. Since October 2012, she is Working Group member of COST ACTION VISTA (IC1102), “Versatile, Integrated, and Signal-aware Technologies for Antennas”.
